Petition
One ask: mark the strings.
The petition asks the FDA and IUD manufacturers to make string length an objective, visible measure — instead of a guess.
Mark the Strings
Ask the FDA and manufacturers to mark the strings.
One device-level change: IUD strings marked in 1 cm increments, so string length becomes an objective, visible measure instead of a guess. The petition asks manufacturers to make the change and regulators to set evidence-based string-length guidance.

What the petition asks
- Investigate the relationship between IUD string length and complicated removals through rigorous clinical studies — for example, comparing string length at removal in complicated versus uncomplicated cases.
- Establish sound, evidence-based instructions-for-use guidance for IUD string length that optimizes a safe, uncomplicated removal.
- Modify the device: mark IUD strings in 1-centimeter increments to provide an objective, visual, and enduring measure of length.
